Ben Shappley

Ben Shappley was introduced as the new CEO and President of Amedica in August 2009.

Mr. Shappley has more than 26 years of orthopaedic and neurosurgical implant experience with management and senior management responsibilities. He has significant global business development and acquisition experience. He has also successfully raised private equity and institutional funds for orthopaedic/spinal concerns and is skilled at creating start-up concerns and developing on-going operations. Most recently, he was the CEO and President of Spine Matrix. Prior to that, he was the President of Theken Spine. Mr. Shappley was the Sr. Vice President and CMO of Therics Corporation (NYSE:TG), a Princeton, NJ-based osteobiologics company that was acquired by the Theken group of companies. He founded and served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Orthomatrix, Inc., an orthopaedic trauma device company that acquired its beginning assets from Wright Medical Technology. He has also served in senior management roles with Wright Medical Technology (NASDAQ:WMGI), Applied Osteo Systems (NASDAQ:ENMC), Medtronic Sofamor Danek (NYSE:MDT), American Medical Electronics (NASDAQ:OFIX) and Smith & Nephew (NYSE:SN). Mr. Shappley was recently named "Executive of the Year" for Memphis and Shelby County; he also received the "CEO Leadership Award" presented by the Memphis Chamber of Commerce. He is a founding charter member of the Institute for Orthopaedic Enlightenment, and serves as an advisor to the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine, Orthopaedic Research Institute. Mr. Shappley also serves as an advisor to Akron Mayor Donald Plusquellic on the BioMedical Corridor Project. He currently holds seven orthopaedic implant patents, and holds a BS degree in Business Management.
